Church Construction Counseling

Overview

When God calls churches and faith-based organizations to build, it is an exciting time in the life of those congregations. God's presence through the process provides a special blessing for those involved; yet at the same time, planning, designing and implementing a construction project can be a daunting responsibility.

Whether considering a renovation project, additions to existing facilities, or new building construction, church building committees and faith-based boards are faced with many challenges as they enter the world of construction. While excitement and contagious enthusiasm for the project usually abounds amongst church staff and volunteers serving on building committees, the fact remains that experience and expertise in dealing with architects, engineers, contractors and the construction process is often limited to few, if any, of these dedicated persons.

Of equal, if not greater, importance is the issue of time availability for persons comprising a building committee or board to devote to the project, especially during the construction phase when it becomes critically important that the church has consistent, knowledgeable and frequent representation. It is indeed rare to find a church building committee or board with a member who is both experienced with construction AND available during the day when construction takes place. Therefore, a void often exists between churches responding to God's call to expand their ministries, and the design / construction teams engaged to build or renovate the facilities that will enable these ministries to grow.

CHURCH CONSTRUCTION COUNSELING (CCC) has been formed as a ministry designed to bridge this gap between God's growing churches and the often secular world of construction. During a civil engineering career that has spanned almost 3 decades, Jeff Barnes has been directly involved with the master planning, design and construction of a variety of church and faith-based projects. Through this experience, God has so impressed upon him the need for this CCC ministry that he has recently sold, and is gradually separating from, a successful 20-person engineering firm he founded over 18 years ago in order to fully respond to God's call to be a counselor and advocate for churches during the planning, design and building construction process.
