Church Construction Counseling

Cost of Ministry

CHURCH CONSTRUCTION COUNSELING (CCC) was formed in response to God's call to this ministry. As in any type of ministry, however, there is a cost associated with conducting church construction counseling work. By working out of his home with no employees and minimal overhead expense, Jeff Barnes is committed to offering this ministry to churches and faith-based organizations at the lowest possible cost using a fee structure with rates less than one-third of comparable professional engineering services. An individualized fee structure will be created to meet the needs of your church or organization based upon the scope of ministry services requested. A typical fee structure could be implemented as follows:

  • INTRODUCTORY 3 MONTHS OF CCC MINISTRY - Provides an opportunity for a church or organization to get to know Jeff, and Jeff to get to know them as well. During this initial time frame, regardless of what phase a project is in when Jeff gets involved, there will be no charge for services.
  • PLANNING & DESIGN PHASE OF PROJECT - Throughout this portion of the life of a project, planning committee and building committee meetings are most often an ongoing necessity, coupled with selection of the design or design-build team, and perhaps a capital campaign consultant. As a budget is established and actual design commences, the project becomes clearer and it begins to take shape, first in the form of schematic drawings, followed by detailed construction drawings, specifications and bid/contract documents. Throughout this phase, Jeff will typically work on an hourly rate plus direct expenses basis.
  • CONSTRUCTION PHASE OF PROJECT - The construction phase of the project involves the most intensive time commitment on Jeff's part to frequently visit the site and monitor the construction, attend meetings, review documents, assist in problem resolution, etc. An hourly rate fee structure might be continued for small projects; however, experience has shown that the cost of continuing to work on an hourly basis for larger projects would be prohibitive to the church. For that reason, Jeff will instead typically work on a percent of total construction cost basis throughout this project phase, at a rate less than two percent.

GUARANTEE - Recognizing that good stewardship is of the utmost importance to any church or faith-based organization, it is understood that the cost of ministry is a sensitive topic. Any Building Committee rightly expects to receive value for every dollar spent on a church project, and has a responsibility to its congregation in that regard. To guarantee that value will be received by including CCC as part of your project team, Jeff trusts that by virtue of his involvement, your church or organization will save AT LEAST as much design and construction cost on the project as it expends in fees paid to CCC, or you will owe him nothing at all for this ministry. Jeff's prayer and belief is that his involvement in your church project will result in increased value and a better equipped facility for ministry at a financial savings far greater than the cost of this CCC ministry.

For he looked forward to the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
